POLICE have closed a main city street in one direction, putting diversions in place.

A police van could be seen outside Worcester Crown court with cones blocking the road heading towards the city centre.

A spokesman confirmed a window had fallen out of a building above the Hopmarket, leaving broken glass all over the pavement and road.

They said: "At around 3pm we attended Foregate Street after a member of the public reported that two large windows at a property had blown out causing glass to fall onto the pavement and road.

"We are informing the Council so that the road can cleaned and the bus lane is closed whilst it’s cleared."

Police closed the bus lane outside the building because of the risk and bus company First Worcester tweeted a service update saying officers had closed Foregate Street outside Poppins restaurant.

The tweet said: "Police have closed Foregate St inbound only, opposite Poppins restaurant.

"Diversion is to use St Marys street, Sansome Walk and St.Nicholas to get back into Crowngate, this affects service numbers 37 and 144."
