I have written previously about returning to normality as soon as possible to stop the economy being irretrievably wrecked.

As the weeks go by, this becomes more important. One of the essentials, is to get children back to school. This is to keep the disruption to their education to minimum, and to allow their parents to return to work.

I thought this was the result we were all striving for. So I was surprised, to see the result of the Gazette's poll, that 70 per cent of parents would not send their children back to school.

The Government has made mistakes during this crisis, but do parents really believe the Government would reopen the schools if it wasn't safe to do so?

Remember, most schools have been open all through this crisis, teaching the children of essential workers, so they already have experience of how to maintain social distancing and sterilising regimes.

But the Government's cause is not helped by Teaching Unions, politicising the crisis. How can a caring and nurturing profession like teaching elect left wing zealots to represent them?

The NEU's leaders Mary Bousted and John Courtney have encouraged their members to bully head teachers on social media, who try to reopen their schools. But Mary Bousted, has said privately, that all this posturing is a 'negotiating position'.

So it seems she hopes to get something out of it, this is like being back in the 1980s, when Unions last 'flexed their muscles'.

I think another reason for the poll result, is that people are quite enjoying their newfound leisure, and being paid 80% of their wages, there is no incentive to go back to work.
