A NINE-year-old has cycled 20 miles to raise money for a Worcester charity.

Izzy Lewis was inspired to take on the challenge last weekend in a bid to raise money for Worcester Community Trust.

Originally, she set out to raise £200 towards the charity which supports Worcester’s vulnerable, however, so far, she has already trebled her target and raised £760.

She said: “I really wanted to help the people in my hometown that are vulnerable during the Covid-19 battle.

“So, I decided to challenge myself to cycle 20 miles solo round the block where I live, which is a personal challenge for me as I have only recently learnt to ride a bike.”

Mum Becky Perry said: “We worked out through the app Strava that if she cycled 100 laps around the block that would be 20 miles.

“She is old enough to understand the coronavirus and when we’ve been going out to clap every Thursday she is aware of all the good things that people are doing. This inspired her and she wanted to contribute to help.

"We researched different local charities and came across the Worcester Community Trust. We looked into the different work they do and the packages available for the community.”

The mum from Hallow, near Worcester, added: “I am really proud, because it wasn’t long ago she learnt to ride her bike.

“I was worried – she was blown off her bike twice because we had very strong winds that weekend. But she got up and carried on and completed the 20 miles.”
