THE sight of George Floyd with a police officer’s knee on his neck has sickened the world and the incendiary fury it has provoked is entirely natural.

Whatever our creed, colour or background, we can surely all agree that the behaviour of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin, now charged with third-degree murder, was despicable. It is commendable that Worcester's young people wish to show solidarity with those in the US who are justifiably outraged by this poor man’s death on the streets of Minneapolis. Let us also not forget that the culture in the UK is very different - as are the methods of our own officers. It is dangerous to make generalisations about the behaviour of all police officers (or white people) based on the contemptible behaviour of a few or to assume that all forms of police brutality are racially motivated. They are not.

Of course black lives matter - all lives matter. Black or white, we must all realise that our blood is one colour and we are all human beings with a right to life.
