BEAUTY salons, nail bars, tattoo studios and tanning shops were given the green light to re-open after over 100 days of enforced closure due to the coronavirus.

A Worcester salon owner welcomed the decision, but feels the treatment restrictions are unfair.

The government guidelines do not yet allow beauticians to administer treatment on the face, which means facials, waxing, eyebrow tinting and eyelash applications are off limits.

Amy Austin, owner of All About Me, in Sidbury said: “We are, of course, really excited to be re-open. It is wonderful to see our lovely clients again.

“We have been working throughout lockdown renovating the salon and preparing to welcome our customers in again.

“However, the current restrictions mean we are not able to offer a lot of our treatments. It is a real shame.

“I think it is particularly unfair seeing as the barbershop next door can conduct beard washing and trimming - but we are not allowed.

“As an industry we are very clean and sanitary anyway, I do feel like we have been treated unfairly in terms of opening after hairdressers and now being limited in what we can offer our clients.”

Hairdressers and barbershops opened up on July 4, but beauticians, nail technicians and tattooists have had to wait until today to re-open their doors.

Despite the huge queues for haircuts on 'Super Saturday,' nail bars have been quiet across the city this morning.

There were no queues and both Natural Nails and Worcester Style Nails had appointments free and seats empty when a reporter visited them yesterday.

Lee Hung Tuan owns D&D nails in Worcester. He is ecstatic to be re-open after previously slamming the government for their “silly” decision to open hair salons and not nail bars.

Have you visited a newly re-opened shop yet or is it too soon?
