GYMS, leisure centres and swimming pools have finally been given the green light to re-open from this Saturday, July 25.

Perdiswell Leisure Centre – home to the city’s championship-standard swimming pool – will be opening on Saturday. But the city’s other two main sports centres, St John's and Nunnery Wood, will open from August 1.

Ivan Horsfall-Turner, managing director of Freedom Leisure, which operates the sports centres on behalf of Worcester City Council, said: “It’s hugely exciting to be welcoming back both members and non-members to the excellent facilities at the three Worcester centres.

“We are grateful for the support from Worcester City Council, who clearly recognise the importance of their leisure service to the health and wellbeing of the residents of Worcester.

“We are working hard to put appropriate social distancing measures in place so that our customers can feel safe and confident to return to their leisure centres.”

Customers will need to book in advance for gym sessions, lane swimming and group exercise classes.

This is so that numbers can be managed, to adhere to social distancing requirements, and to ensure there is adequate time between sessions for areas to be thoroughly cleaned.

There will be hand sanitiser stations throughout each centre and customers are asked to do their best to support the centre teams to keep facilities clean and safe for everyone.

Information on opening times, activity session times and details on how to book can be found at www.freedom-leisure.co.uk.

Other gyms opening on Saturday include:

  • Nuffield Health, Droitwich Road
  • Bull Pen Fitness, Sherriff Street
  • Anytime Fitness, Basin Road
  • David Lloyd, Hindlip
  • Box Fitness, The Tything
  • Pure Gym, St. Martin’s Gate
  • Revolution Fitness, Tolladine Road
