A WOMAN was attacked and sexually assaulted in Worcester this afternoon.

Police said a woman was walking along Grosmont Avenue earlier this evening when a man stopped her to ask the time. The man then sexually assaulted the woman and only ran off when members of the public intervened.

Officers are appealing for information following the sexual assault in Worcester this afternoon (22 July).

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "At around 5.15pm a woman was walking along Grosmont Avenue in Worcester talking on her phone, when a man stopped her to ask her the time.

"He then attacked and sexually assaulted the woman before several members of the public intervened and the suspect ran off."

Inspector Lewis Lincoln-Gordon said: “While incidents like this are extremely rare, officers are in the area supporting and reassuring the local community and an investigation is under way. Specially trained officers are also supporting the victim.

“We would like to speak anyone who recognises or knows the man in the image as he may be able to help us with our enquiries.”
