ROADWORKS on the M271 are set to continue this week in a move Highways England says is designed to support residents and increase economic growth.

The scheme includes a free-flowing lane from the M271 southbound towards Southampton docks, improved shared paths, a new footbridge, widening of the roundabout, and planting hundreds of shrubs and new trees.

From today (August 3) until Sunday, August 9, there will be:

  • Narrowed lanes on the M271 southbound and northbound
  • An inner ring closure on Redbridge Roundabout
  • A lane closure on the A33 slip road westbound exit
  • A hard shoulder closure on the M271 northbound

From today until Wednesday, August 5, there will be:

  • A full closure of the M271 southbound at junction one
  • A full closure of the northeastern quadrant of Redbridge Roundabout
  • A lane closure on the A33 westbound sliproad

On Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7, there will be:

  • A southbound lane closure on the M271
  • A closure of the southern section of Redbridge Roundabout
  • A full closure of the A33 westbound exit slip road
  • A full closure of Old Redbridge Road at the junction of the A33

On Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, there will be:

  • A southbound lane closure of the M271
  • Full closure of the northeastern section of Redbridge Roundabout
  • Full closure of the M271 northbound from Redbridge Roundabout to junction 1
  • Full closure of the A35 eastbound exit slip road
  • Full closure of Gover Road at the junction of Redbridge Roundabout

A Highways England statement said: "We will put fully signed diversion routes in place for any full carriageway closures.

"We apologise for any disruption. Please plan and allow extra time for your journeys."
