THE FAMILY of a "remarkable" Southampton doctor who died of cancer have raised thousands of pounds for a fully-functioning chemotherapy room at a hospital in Egypt.

Dr Adel Aziz, a consultant in emergency medicine at University Hospital Southampton, died in January after a battle with cancer.

The emergency department team had planned to organise a memorial for his but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before he passed away, Adel had set up a GoFundMe page to raise £26,000 for a fully-functioning chemotherapy room at a hospital in Egypt.

Daily Echo:

After his death, his family continued the fund raising in his memory and to leave a "true living legacy" in his memory.

"This fundraiser will go towards a long standing Legacy that Dr. Adel Abdel Aziz leaves behind in the field of healthcare.

"A true living memory of the remarkable man, husband, father, doctor, role model, friend and mentor."

"We shall continue to share this approach with all our future colleagues."
