Coronavirus infection rate for Southend, Basildon and Canvey

The figures, for the seven days to August 7, are based on tests carried
out in laboratories - pillar one of the Government's testing programme -
and in the wider community - pillar two.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people in the seven-day period. 

In Southend, the rate has stayed at 2.7, with five new cases confirmed - exactly the same as the situation seven days ago.

In Basildon, the rate has dropped to 1.6, with three new cases confirmed, set against a rate of 2.7 seven days ago, when five cases had been confirmed. 

In Castle Point, the rate remains at 4.4, with four new cases confirmed, the same picture as was reported seven days ago.

No new cases have been reported in Rochford, leaving the rate as 0.0, down from 2.3 a week ago when two new cases were confirmed. 

For context, in troublespot Pendle, the rate has jumped from 44.5 in the seven days to July 31 to 96.6 in the seven days to August 7 after 89 new cases were recorded.

In Oldham, the rate has risen from 60.3 to 87.7, with 208 new cases.

Blackburn with Darwen is third, where the rate has increased slightly
from 78.8 to 80.2, with 120 new cases.

Leicester has seen a slight rise, from 54.2 to 58.2, with 206 new cases.

Other areas recording notable week-on-week jumps include:

- Preston (up from 34.9 to 40.5, with 58 new cases)

- Burnley (up from 20.2 to 39.4, with 35 new cases)

- Northampton (up from 27.6 to 37.0, with 83 new cases)

- Tameside (up from 25.6 to 36.2, with 82 new cases)
