WE’VE got images from opposite ends of Worcester city centre today which are sure to spark memories among readers.

The first main image is of the Gaumont Theatre in Foregate Street and was taken in 1951.

A much-loved theatre and music venue in the city, the Gaumont played host to many stars of the 20th century, including Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, The Beatles and Queen. Not forgetting one interesting man already on the cusp of world superstardom pictured here – David Bowie.

We’d love hear your memories of favourite bands and musicians, and special trips to the Gaumont.

The other main picture is a vintage view of Pump Street, taken around 1960, showing Shapland’s corner at the junction with The Shambles, pre-pedestrianisation.

A young boy carries a large teddy bear under his arm as he peers into the shop window of Busby’s – does anyone remember shopping there?

In the distance is the Flamingo Coffee bar on the corner of New Street and Charles Street, a popular meeting place for many.

More up to date is the picture of cafe-goers enjoying a coffee at Coffee#1, while the picture below of the empty Cathedral Plaza is a gloomy reminder of retail victims.
