A WALKER is furious over what he described as the “remnants of a party” at a popular recreational spot.

Richard Atkins ,71, said: “I was disappointed to find the remnants of a party left on Kempsey Common.

“Empty cider cans and wine bottles, plus various litter including empty packet of wet wipes, cigarette filters and even a working lighter, which could cause a serious fire - I took it away as it could be dangerous.

“Grass was scorched from a portable BBQ that someone must have lit during their get together.

“There’s gorse bush nearby and if the fire had spread, about an acre of gorse could have gone up, causing a massive issue and the fire service would have been called out."

The charity Keep Britain Tidy has said more that a million instances of fly-tipping were dealt with by councils a year, with an excess clear-up cost of £58million in total.

Mr Atkins added: “I didn’t have a bag with me (I was walking my daughter’s dog). I gathered it and put by the metal field gate to reduce risk to animals and children.

“It’s sad that some visitors have so little respect for the countryside or the animals that roam the common land.”
