A CONVENIENCE store has taken drastic measures to deter thieves after a spate of break-ins.

The store has installed anti-theft barriers around the perimeter after burglars previously climbed through the roof of the store.

However, the dramatic-looking metal spikes in place around the top of Tesco Express in Brindley Road have not found favour with local residents who described them as 'anti-social.'

A Tesco spokesman said: “After a spate of recent break-ins at our Warndon Express we have installed several new security measures to help protect the store.”

Police and forensics were seen outside the shop back in April.

Cigarettes were stolen from the Tesco Express.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said at the time: “Offenders gained entry to a business premises on Brindley Road, Warndon between 11.15pm on Monday 27 April and 5.15am on Tuesday 28 April.

“A quantity of cigarettes was stolen, enquires are ongoing.

The store was also targeted by thieves as far back as 2012.

On that occasion, the fire brigade were called in after the fire alarm was heard going off at about 5am in the early hours February 9 2012.
