AN update has been published on how the controversial roadworks in St John's are progressing.

Ringway Worcestershire published an updated bulletin announcing the progress of the works, which have seen large parts of the suburb cut off from the rest of Worcester.

The bulletin said: "Works have been progressing well over the past two weeks in St John's, despite some extreme weather conditions experienced."

As the works progress, the pavement outside Lloyd's Bank is almost complete, along with the relocation of the street light column to the corner of the bank, this being done to free up more pavement space for pedestrians.

Along with this, works continue on the pavement opposite Cripplegate House, with new gullies and kerb drainage being installed.

The next stage of construction will see the pavement widened on the corner to provide better pedestrian access.

The bulletin continued: "Once all works are complete in this area, a new splitter island will have been installed to complete the new set of signal-controlled pedestrian crossings for improved accessibility to and from St John's and the City.

"The team will then move into Henwick Road under a full closure to enable new highway drainage to be installed and the existing pedestrian crossing to be improved."

Elsewhere, additional resources have been brought in to begin works in Malvern Road next to St John's Church.

Over the next few weeks, additional traffic light ducting will be installed for the new traffic signals which will be put in.

The pavement there will be built using new block paving materials to fit in with the rest of the St John's pavements.

The bulletin added: "As with all our ongoing works, special measures are being taken to ensure social distancing on-site to protect the workforce and the public from the risk of Covid-19."
