PUBS and restaurants will continue to offer discount food throughout September following the success of a government scheme.

Even though the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is over, some Worcester pubs and restaurants will continue to run their own discount scheme.

The Swan, in New Street, has said it will be extending its Eat Out to Help Out discount for another month - however, it has changed the discount days to Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Customers will enjoy 50 per cent off food and soft drinks up to £10 from Thursday, September 3.

Louise Tranter, owner the pub, said: “August was busy for us. Because the scheme was working so well as decided to extend it.

“Our normal opening hours are Thursday to Sunday, so to take part in the scheme we opened Tuesday and Wednesday. It was really good for us.

“We’ve been so overwhelmed from all the support from our local community throughout these difficult and tough times, and we wanted to give something back as a thank you to everyone who has visited us and supported us.”

She added: “We are not going to make loads from this. It’s more about encouraging people to come out and ensure them it’s safe and to support the city centre. It’s really important to the city.”

Another pub, The Retreat Inn, Norton, will offer 25 per cent off main meals throughout September.

Customers are asked to screenshot a voucher which is displayed on the pub’s Facebook page and show staff members when ordering food.

The Chequers at Crowle will also be offering a 50 per cent discount to its customers up to £10, Monday to Wednesday.

The pub has posted on social media: “Who else is sad that the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is coming to an end this bank holiday Monday?

“Well, fear not! Here at The Chequers at Crowle, we will be continuing to offer the scheme throughout September. No new T&C’s, just exactly the same amazing offer.”

The Paul Pry, on The Butts, has suggested there will be an “offer” next month.

The pub shared on Facebook: “Wow! What a month August turned out to be for our little old pub! Moving forward we are just finalising our September “offer” so keep ‘em peeled for that.”

Colwall Park Hotel near Malvern also said it will be extending its Eat Out to Help Out discount for another month after seeing the money spent on food and drink rise by almost a third.

The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme offered customers 50 per cent off their meal, up to a maximum of £10, at hundreds of restaurants during August.
