A DOG lover is asking the public for help after her French Bulldog had her stomach cut open after she swallowed a fishing hook.

Sadie Green, 31, was on a working holiday when her three-year-old dog, Peggy, swallowed a fishing hook. This came after Peggy made friends with a young girl fishing with her dad - however, she was using dog treats as bait.

Peggy chewed on the dog treat which resulted in her swallowing the fishing hook which got embedded in her mouth.

The French Bulldog had to have her stomach cut open for the fishing line to be removed. She now needs a feeding tube, which will be removed when she has recovered.

Miss Green, from Evesham, said: “I have been stressed about it. I was devastated at the start.

“I’m such a dog lover, she is like my little baby. I am relieved that she is back home now.”

Miss Green rushed her dog to the local vets in Hambleton near Blackpool where they were staying, but they were unable to remove the hook, so she was referred to a vet in Manchester.

Miss Green added: “I had to drive an hour and a half away to Manchester to take her to the vet for surgery. The fishing line was really embedded in her. The vet had to cut the side of her chest open to go in her rib cage to remove it. She now has to have a feeding tube, which will be removed once she has recovered.”

Peggy was at the vet from Friday (August 14) until the Monday.

Miss Green added: “Luckily I had the following week off work to look after her. I was having to feed her six times a day through the tube. She is just feeling sorry for herself. think she is a bit depressed, bless her. She is not allowed outside and cannot exercise."

She has created a fundraising page to cover the cost of Peggy's surgery.

So far, £2,225 has been raised.
