A DETERMINED teenager has set up her own business amid a pandemic.

While at college, and after numerous attempts, Emily Wainwright secured employment at McDonald’s, with hours to fit around her course.

However, along with many workers, she was placed furlough in March, which left her feeling “despondent” and at a loose end.

The 19-year-old, from Worcester, who graduated from Pershore College in the summer with a qualification in animal care, said: “I wanted to do something I felt passionate about and I’ve always loved working with animals, so I decided to set up my own animal care business.

“I enjoy the satisfaction I get through working with animals and the love they give back in return.”

Emily has been supported by her family to start the business of her dreams.

Her proud gran Jan Hines said: “Many people in her position would have given up or sat at home, but not Emily.

“With the help of family, she started to distribute leaflets and posters through letter boxes and in supermarkets and elsewhere to get her work.

“This is such an uplifting story for young people in that it teaches them that anything is possible and not to give up.

“In these times this sort of uplifting initiative and sheer determination is what people need to hear about to give hope to others in the same situation.”

Emily wants to inspire others who might be going through a tough time during the pandemic which has been going on for six months.

Emily added: “I have always been determined not to waste my education and with the support of my family, I have remained resolute.”
