THE funeral has taken place of Worcester-born Dorothy Winters, who died in August at the age of 92.

Dorothy lived in Portland Street and Cavendish Street in the city, before family and work saw her lead a much-travelled life, living at Alfrick, Hereford, Solihull, Keynsham, Llanelli, Kidderminster and Monmouth.

While in Worcester, Dorothy worked in the office at Fownes glove factory, before becoming headmaster’s secretary in Solihull, bookkeeper at a chemical supplier at Keynsham, manager of a shop in Llanelli and bookkeeper at Kidderminster & Stone auctions. And she was clearly a woman who loved being kept busy, for as well as her regular employment, Dorothy found time for a great deal of voluntary work.

Son Nigel said: “As a young girl my mother volunteered with the Red Cross as a nurse.

“She became an integral part of initially running the Brownies and then later the Guides, initially at Hereford and then in Solihull.

“She helped at various times with the church flowers.

“She had a love of gardening, flower arranging and a passion for dancing and attended many different dances around Worcester, Kidderminster, Birmingham, and the surrounding areas.

“She will be missed by all her family and friends.”

She is survived by her youngest sister, three children – Penny, Rachel and Nigel – six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A family service for Mrs Winters was held at Forest of Dean last week.
