A CITY primary school has reassured parents after a man was seen acting suspiciously outside the premises on Green Lane.

The head of St Barnabas C of E Primary School has confirmed the school received numerous reports of the man behaving strangely.

Sarah Hanson said: “We did have several reports of a man behaving suspiciously outside our school on Tuesday.

“Members of staff saw this person and so did two workmen who were working on the grounds opposite. The man was approached and he moved on. He returned later and was witnessed again by members of staff.

“One of the witnesses thought he might have been taking photographs or filming. However, the CCTV and staff who witnessed the man were not sure that this had happened.

“Both incidents were reported to the police and they have responded quickly and in a supportive way.

A letter was sent out to parents on Wednesday morning reassuring them after the incident left them with concerns.

One parent said: “This has really messed my head up. It’s upsetting and wrong.”

Mrs Hanson added: “We take all reports very seriously. The safety and well-being of every child is always our top priority. Our site security is high quality and most importantly, our staff are well trained and deeply committed to the children and families of our community.”

The headteacher also said she has alerted other schools of the incident so they are aware.
