TWO schools in Droitwich have been forced to close early this afternoon due to loss of their water supplies.

Chawson First School in Wych Road, and Witton Middle School in Old Coach Road, began suffering from the problem just after lunchtime today, and both took the decision to close.

Suzie Bourne, headteacher at Witton said: "We lost our water supply, and obviously that is a significant health and safety issue.

"It is a significant issue anyway but with the coronavirus situation and the need for frequent hand washing there was no way I was willing for people to remain on site.

"Severn Trent Water are aware and fixing the problem, and we will be able to reopen on Monday.

"We had staggered collections of children, it was very calm and orderly, are parents were brilliant and very supportive."

Chawson First School closed at around 2pm, and also arranged staggered collection times of each class.

No was available to comment from that school.
