COUNTY councillor Will Clark has welcomed the news that Ambleside library will reopen next month.

The library was shut back in March following government guidance on controlling coronavirus.

At a meeting of the county council’s South Lakeland Local Area Committee last Thursday, Cllr Clark raised the importance of the library to the community and encouraged council officers to reopen it as soon as possible.

At the weekend, the council announced that Ambleside, along with 11 other branch libraries in the county, will reopen on October 21 with new COVID-secure measures in place including hand sanitiser stations and new rules that mean all returned books will be quarantined 72 hours before going back into circulation.

Cllr Clark said: “I’m delighted that the council are reopening Ambleside library with new extra measures to make it as safe as possible for local people.

“The library is such a valuable resource for residents both young and old, but having been closed for six months my worry was that people would forget that it’s there unless it’s back open soon.

“I can’t wait to get down there next month and collect a good book!”
