A MAN was ejected from a Worcestershire nightclub after being abusive to staff, Worcester Magistrates Court heard.

Steven Sutcliff said he was “sorry about what happened” after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared at the court yesterday.

Emily Clewer, prosecuting, said Sutcliff had been in Marilyn's Nightclub, in Bridge Street, Evesham on the night of Saturday, August 29, when he started swearing and becoming abusive to staff.

“He was ejected from Marilyn’s,” the prosecutor said.

“Outside he continued to be abusive to staff members, who wouldn’t allow him to reenter.

“Police arrived 10 minutes later and asked him to leave, but he continued to be abusive, shouting at officers.”

Miss Clewer said he then swore at officers before being arrested.

The prosecutor said the 35-year-old had two previous convictions for public disorder, the last being for resisting arrest and being drunk in January 2018.

Sutcliff, who represented himself, was asked if there was anything he wanted to say, to which he replied: “I am sorry about what happened.

“I was a bit drunk, I was out of order."

Sutcliff, of Princess Way, Stourport, and who said he was currently working as bailiff, added he "had been in the wrong" that night.

Chairman of the magistrates bench, Gareth Thomas, said they had decided to give Sutcliff a conditional discharge that will last 12 months.

Mr Thomas said: "We like a conditional discharge because it will hang over your head.

"We are not going to punish you today.

"Basically don't get drunk again and come back to these courts.

"Stay out of trouble."

Sutcliff was told to pay £135 costs and £22 victim surcharge - a total of £157 which will be paid at a rate of £80 a month.
