PUPILS at a county school have taken part in World Mental Health Day.

Children and staff from Westacre Middle School in Droitwich wore yellow to raise awareness of the #HelloYellow campaign.

Deputy head Catherine Doolin said: “Thanks to all of our parents who also played a huge part in the day. All the parents wrote positive comments about their children so we could create positive bunting in school with all the fantastic comments.

"We also wanted to use the day to help our local community in these difficult times so we asked families for donations for Droitwich food bank.

"Again, our parents and children rose to the challenge and by the end of the day our reception was overflowing with donations. We are truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our families."

The children spent the day learning about their own mental health and how to develop strategies on how to look after their wellbeing. The children had lessons about how the brain works, learnt grounding techniques, took part in yoga sessions, did some mindfulness colouring and even had a feel-good dancing session on the playground to a 'feel-good' playlist.

Mrs Doolin added: "School procedures and our environment may have changed to adhere to all the new restrictions but the day showed the true spirit of Westacre hasn’t changed."

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
