A 15-year-old boy was mugged by a group of four teenagers in a city park on Saturday afternoon.

The attack happened in Cripplegate Park and was so vicious that the boy had to be admitted to hospital, according to his family.

In a post on Facebook, a family member wrote: "My 15 year old nephew was walking through Cripplegate Park when a group of boys beat him up, robbed him of his phone, a Nike jacket, a silver chain and his Adidas backpack.

"These boys beat him up so bad he has been admitted to hospital. This was a completely unprovoked attack. If anyone has any info let me know ASAP."

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We were called at 6pm on Saturday (24/10) to reports that a 15 year old boy had been robbed in Cripplegate Park, Worcester at 3pm that same day, by four boys of a similar age.

Sergeant Chris Bannister said: "This type of incident is very rare and we are appealing to the public for any information regarding this. We have stepped up our patrols in the area and the investigation is ongoing."
