THESE are strange times we’re living in, and none stranger than for children in the middle of their education.

So on the last day of school before half-term at Witton Middle School in Droitwich, staff and pupils decided to add to the strange goings-on with Halloween outfits.

There were also some sweet treats to enjoy at the ‘pop-up’ tuck shops.

Headteacher Suzie Bourne said “The children have been fantastic as they returned to school after lockdown.

“Their experiences of the pandemic and the subsequent adaptations that we are all living with has meant this half term has been very different to the normal experience at school.

We believe that it is really important for children to have fun, memorable experiences at school.

“Today has been a great opportunity to make everyone smile and to allow them to have a little extra fun alongside their learning.”

Meanwhile, local babies and toddlers have been getting into the autumn spirit at TinyTalk Baby Signing and Toddler Talking classes.

From inflatable pumpkins, spooky skeletons and home-made scarecrows, families have been celebrating all things seasonal with their little ones.

Local teacher Mollie Prior, of the group which offers classes in Worcester, Evesham and Droitwich, said: “Being back in venue and running classes for the first time in six months has certainly been something to celebrate and you can always rely on our TinyTalk families to have the most fun and be the most creative with their outfits!

“It’s been the perfect opportunity to come together and meet all the new mums and babies since lockdown as well as explore the magic of signing in the autumnal season.”

TinyTalk classes are held on Tuesdays at The Lyppard Hub and are weekly one-hour sessions, with songs, games, books and sensory activities.
