BACK in the Seventies, it was a popular sport. Something akin to wellie wanging, but rather more stressful.
Coal humping caught the nation’s attention and in Worcester catering manager Tony Toulson of Avon Road set out to carry one hundredweight of coal on his back for 32 miles and win himself a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
Sadly, his effort turned to ashes around the 22-mile mark, but he still raised £500 for the NSPCC.
