A FLIGHT Lieutenant is attempting to walk 111 miles before Armistice Day, November 11, to raise £1,111 for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Flt Lt Karl Nicholson, who lives in Ombersley Road, said: “Myself and my friend Sergeant Luke Ford are members of the Air Cadets, and both at Worcester Squadron. Over the summer we did something similar for the RAF Benevolent Fund.

“We thought we would up the stakes, doing something harder, this time for the British Legion. We are doing 111 miles in 11 days, and the idea is to finish at 11am on Armistice Day itself.”

Mr Nicholson said they were already a few days in and he was shattered but determined.

“We have been doing the walk along routes in and around Worcester,” Mr Nicholson said.

“Early mornings and late at night, fitting it around work.

“We are trying to do 10 to 15 miles each day.

“The reason I did the one earlier this year was to get away from the computer, as I was getting a bit stir crazy, and raise money at the same time.

“At the moment there isn’t any real Poppy Appeal collecting going on, so we thought it is an excuse to get out once again and raise money for the British Legion as they could struggle this year. This time keeping in the spirit of the walk we want to raise £1,111.” Anyone who wants to give a donation can visit Mr Nicholson’s fundraising page mypoppyrun.britishlegion.org.uk/fundraising/MyPoppyRun2020-KarlNicholson.
