A BUSINESSMAN best known for feeding hungry fans at Kidderminster Harriers Football Club, has died after battling an illness.

Lifelong Harriers supporter Brian Murdoch provided the much-loved match day food at the club for 55 years, serving up his famous pies and Aggborough soup.

Mr Murdoch died on Saturday, November 7 at Russell's Hall Hospital in Dudley, at the age of 81.

His pies were fan favourites at the club and regularly topped the BBC's Price of Football survey for being the most expensive in the country.

Mr Murdoch had various other business ventures over the years, including Murdoch’s Wine Bar and an outside catering business.

On Twitter, Kidderminster Harriers posted: "It is with great sadness that Kidderminster Harriers have learned of the passing of Brian Murdoch, the heart of food at Aggborough Stadium for almost 60 years."

Fans took to social media to pay tribute to the late Harriers legend. One user Tweeted: "Very sad news. The food’s an integral part of the Aggborough experience & one of the reasons why many an away fan enjoy their visit.

"Go to any other stadium these days & the food offering isn’t a patch on what’s offered by the Murdoch’s.

"A sad day, but I hope his legacy lives on.

One fan on Facebook said: "Your pies will always be part of Aggborough's history and hopefully will continue to be. A football cuisine legend. RIP Brian."

Mr Murdoch is survived by his wife Joan, four children and 11 grandchildren.

His family have asked for privacy at this time and say funeral arrangements will be announced shortly in accordance with the current government guidelines.
