THERE has been a mass outbreak of coronavirus at a Worcester care home.

According to Public Health 33 residents and 18 members of staff at St Stephen’s Care Home on Droitwich Road have tested positive for coronavirus.

A whistle blower who has a relative in the care home told the Worcester News “They have a mass outbreak of coronavirus. I went past today and there does not seem to be many staff as only one car outside. I am concerned that they are not doing what is needed to ensure that my relative does not become another fatality.”

Dr. Kathryn Cobain, the Director for Public Health for Worcestershire said: “Worcestershire County Council is working with Public Health England (PHE) Midlands to support St.Stephen’s care home in Worcester, following an outbreak of Covid-19.

“33 residents and 18 staff have tested positive at the care home and are now following national guidance and self-isolating for 10 days. Close contacts are being identified and told to self-isolate for 14 days, in accordance with the national guidance.

“Public Health partners are working closely with the home to ensure prevention measures are in place and we continue to work collectively to monitor the situation and to ensure all necessary action is taken.”
