A GREEK street food restaurant could soon be opening the city.

Plans have been put forward to convert the former home of Worcester Piano Shop in Barbourne Road into a takeaway restaurant.

The restaurant would open between 12pm and 10pm between Monday and Saturday and 12pm and 9pm on Sunday.

A statement included with the application by Dimitrios Machairas from Eat Greek said: “We are a small, family-owned business.

"We will only be open until 10pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and until 9pm on Sundays, which will not affect the tenant living above the property.

“The store will be closed within 30 minutes of closing time.

“We source all of our products ourselves from local independent shops and retailers and we will not receive any deliveries to the store, which means the traffic will not be affected.”

Mr Machairas also addressed potential problems about traffic and parking on the busy Barbourne Road in his application.

"We focus mostly on deliveries, and with the current situation it is just safer this way for our customers," he said.

"We will not tolerate our customers parking in front of the shop and they will have to find their own parking space around in the area if they would like to collect.

"But as we are based in the city centre, walk-ins are more probable, which will not have an affect on traffic."

The application can be viewed via the planning section of Worcester City Council's website.

The application number is 20/00840/FUL.

Consultation ends on December 4.

l Worcester City Council's planning committee meets from 1.30pm this Thursday (November 19).

Councillors will be deciding on retrospective plans for Worcester Muslim Cemetery and a flats plan for the former Rainbow Hill Working Men's Club.
