AN UNDER-fire business near Willersey is being investigated by Cotswold District Council over complaints from residents.

Fresh for All on Badsey Lane farms and distributes spring onions with residents alleging the road structure and safety is being compromised by 20 heavy goods vehicle (HGV) trips per day.

The company last week acknowledged it imports onions from India but director Rajdeep Singh said its operations are within “lawful use”.

Worcestershire County Councillor Elizabeth Eyre said she had received a number of complaints and that “it is quite clear there should be no transshipment” – redistribution of goods not farmed on site – which promoted her to ask “Cotswold to investigate”.

“The type of business it is has caused a lot of issues for the residents in Wickhamford,” said Cllr Eyre.

“It is about safety and wellbeing. Huge lorries and small country roads do not go together well.

“I have had very good co-operation with the departments that work with the district councillor and the officers. I thought there might be a problem but that hasn’t been the case, everyone is working together.

“The pattern of deliveries did not seem to fit the planning application. It is quite clear there should be no transshipment.

“There appear to be some buildings – and until you investigate you don’t know – that need to be looked at. The planning officer is looking into a possible breach of conditions and planning.

“The important thing is to work together to minimise the impact on Wickhamford residents.”

A Cotswold District Council spokesperson said: “We have received a number of complaints about Fresh for All and our officers are working alongside County Council Highways to resolve the issue.

“We are currently gathering information to establish if a breach of planning control has occurred and what further actions, if any, may be necessary.”

In response, Mr Singh said: "We will talk to and comply with the council on this matter and come up with a fair solution if there are any issues raised."
