A DROITWICH Spa councillor is urging residents to put their Christmas lights up outside their houses to spread some festive cheer at the end of what has been a difficult year due to the pandemic.

Richard Morris, Worcestershire County Councillor for Droitwich West, said: “As we’ve had such a strange and difficult year, we are trying to encourage as many households in Droitwich to light for Christmas.

“The hope is for us to do this for advent by putting some lights on the outside of our houses or in our front gardens or veranda, as few or as many as you wish.

“Another idea we have had is to put a candle in your window for remembrance.

“At 6pm on December 1, which will hopefully be the last day of lockdown, we will meet on our doorsteps, socially distanced of course, with our favourite tipple to cheer such a great neighbourhood and offer thanks and hope for the future.

“There have been certain initiatives before, but we want to do this because of the difficult year we’ve all had due to the pandemic to spread some festive cheer.

“It’s an opportunity to celebrate our community and give some cheer and thanks in these difficult times.”

Residents responded to Cllr Morris’ request on the Spotted Droitwich Facebook page.

Rachel Brown said: What a fantastic idea. Our house is all done on Meadow Road.”

Sally Ann Drew said: “Sounds good to me.”

Helen Broughton said: “We’ll be shining some lights in our house and saying cheers!”
