A SIGN has been installed in a residential Worcester street that had numerous problems with large vehicles getting stuck in the road.

Councillor Richard Udall, county councillor for St John’s, paid for the sign in McIntyre Road from his budget.

He said: “The controversial decision to allow the building of 25 new houses on Sanctuary Park by Platform Housing Association, was always going to cause problems for local residents, one problem which was predicted from the start was access to the site for construction vehicles. One of the planning conditions instructed the developer to provide a suitable route to avoid problems. The developer did so, but they were largely ignored, delivery drivers following sat-nav’s were often directed to use McIntyre Road, only to find they could not navigate the tight corners and had to reverse out again.

“It became a constant and daily problem, the developer placed flimsy A4 notices on lampposts, but they were so small they could not be read or were easily ignored. I asked for the County Council to erect signs, initially they refused, rightly claiming it was a responsibility of the developers.

“However, the problem intensified, I asked residents to send me pictures of goods vehicles using McIntyre Road as evidence. Using the evidence provided by residents I eventually persuaded the county council to erect the sign and paid for it out of my locally determined budget for highway works. It was erected on Tuesday.

“It is a clear and obvious sign, which cannot be avoided. They no longer have any excuses, goods vehicles should not be using McIntyre Road and they have been warned.”
