A WORCESTER sixth form student has raised more than £3,000 for a young people’s mental health charity after running 300 miles in 30 days.

16-year-old Max Collins, a year12 student at RGS Worcester, has so far raised £3,760 for YoungMinds.

Max has been running every day in November, and he reached his target of 300 miles on Monday, November 30, after running into the RGS school grounds at 4.15pm to applause from his friends, family and teachers.

Max said he wanted to raise some money for a mental health charity after seeing how much people had been impacted from the first lockdown.

He said: “I just felt it was very important to do something that supported children and young people’s mental health.

“I chose YoungMinds because it does just that.

“I noticed some of my friends have suffered from mental health issues because of the lockdown and I wanted to set a challenge for myself to show people that anything is possible, and so to do it for this charity was fantastic.”

Since the start of November, Max had been waking up at around 5.20am every day.

He would then go out and run for about four miles in the morning and again in the evening.

Max, who lives just outside of Stourport with his parents Emma and Richard, and his siblings Ruby, 13 and Finley, seven, said he would change his running route most days, but enjoyed running throughout the Wyre Forest and Stourport common.

RGS Headmaster John Pitt, said: “RGS Worcester is incredibly proud of Max.

“He has shown true perseverance and commitment throughout his challenge, whilst raising an impressive amount of money for a very worthwhile cause. Mental health support is so important in these times, and we are sure Max’s efforts will help many young people.”
