DISCOUNT store Home Bargains is set to open its new Droitwich store this weekend, creating 75 new jobs.

The retailer, which already has stores elsewhere in the county including in Worcester, will be opening the new £6 million store on the Roman Way Retail Park at 8am this Saturday, (December 5).

The store is employing a total of 83 staff, with staff and management transferring from other stores, and 75 new employees.

The 24,509 square foot store, which is a brand-new unit built on the site of a former Homebase store and near Aldi and DFS on the retail park, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

But different to other stores locally, the new store also has its own garden centre – GardenWorld at Home Bargains – that features a range of plants, soils and garden decor.

Jack Jelicic, the store's manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening our new store in Droitwich this Saturday and look forward to welcoming customers through its doors.

"Having worked for Home Bargains for over 10 years, I have to say opening the store will be one of my proudest accomplishments.

“Roman Way Retail Park will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

The discount retailer, that has more than 500 outlets across the UK, is also donating £2,000 to Droitwich Community Pantry & Fridge.

The charity provides food parcels for homeless and vulnerable individuals, and families across Droitwich, using surplus and rescued food from supermarkets, shops, manufacturers, wholesalers and distribution centres across Worcestershire.

The Worcester News has previously reported that Home Bargains has announced that staff will receive extra pay in the run up to Christmas, and will be closed on Boxing Day to allow staff to make the most of the Christmas break and spend more time with loved ones over the festive period.

At the time a spokesman said: "Home Bargains is a family-run business, and we know the importance of being together at Christmas time, now more than ever.

“Our staff work tirelessly to keep all our stores running smoothly no matter what and this is our way of saying thank you to all of our staff for their hard work and commitment.”
