CHRISTMAS is not cancelled at Worcester Cathedral, with the popular annual festive events still planned to go ahead.

All Christmas events at the cathedral, including the traditional services and carol concert, will be going ahead with social distancing measures in place meaning fewer people than normal will be able to take part.

All events will go ahead with full safety measures in place, including the traditional Christmas Services, Christmas Concert by Candlelight, and the annual display of glittering Christmas Trees displayed in the atmospheric medieval Cloister.

Some Christmas Services will be also be livestreamed on the Worcester Cathedral Facebook page to ensure that those who cannot, or choose not to, attend in person can be part of the Christmas celebrations.

Worcester Cathedral’s Chief Operating Officer Val Floy said: "Christmas is when the Cathedral’s place in all our lives is perhaps most obvious.

"Although government guidance means we cannot hold our usual Christmas celebrations in the same way, we are determined that the Cathedral will still play its central role in Christmas for our community.

"We are delighted to invite the residents of Worcester, our neighbours in the county, and those farther afield to join in this unique Cathedral Christmas, but if you’re not able to join us in person, there will also be services available online and the chance to support the work of the Cathedral by making a contribution through our website.”

More information and a full list of livestreamed services can be found on the Cathedral website.

Seating will be limited and admittance to all public services, apart from 8am on Christmas Day and livestreams, will be strictly by pre-booked, ticketed entry only.

Tickets are free and can be booked via the Cathedral website from 9am on Thursday, December 3.

This year, only around 150 people at a time can be allowed in, around 10 per cent of the normal attendance at Christmas.

Because of this, more services will be held to give more people the chance to attend in person. The Cathedral will also be live-streaming some services via its Facebook page.

To protect all involved, congregational singing will not be a part of services this Christmas, but the choirs will perform Christmas music and carols for all to enjoy.
