THE spectacular Crown of Light encircling the tower of St Silin’s Church, Llansilin will, once again, be lighting up the village and surrounding valley during Advent.

People are invited to give donations to celebrate Christmas, to remember a loved one or to commemorate a special event.

Money raised will be given to two local hospices – Hope House and the Severn Hospice.

Donations can be made via the Llansilin Village Shop or to St Silin’s Church members.

There is also the opportunity to donate to the Hospices through virginmoneygiving.com/stsilinschurchllansilin

A big advantage of this method is that the donation can be Gift Aided.

A very sad victim of the coronavirus pandemic is the cancellation of the Llansilin Plygain service, normally held at the beginning of December.

The event is important in maintaining the ancient tradition of unaccompanied close harmony singing of special carols, and every effort will be made to ensure it takes place next year.

For the latest confirmation of other Christmas services contact the churchwarden Christine on 01691 791 563.

Llansilin Memorial Hall has received a grant of £6,000 towards its Covid-19 recovery project to secure the financial viability of the hall into a 2021 recovery period following the loss of all income from hire of the premises and loss of normal fund raising activities since the start of the pandemic restrictions in March.

The hall committee secretary Arthur James, on behalf of the hall committee, is grateful for the grant from The National Lottery Community Fund Wales which will secure the availability of the premises for community organisations into the anticipated recovery period in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
