WARNDON residents who want to make an official objection to planning permission for anti theft spikes have only a few days left, a councillor has warned.

The Tesco Express in Brindley Road, Warndon had the security measure installed around the edge of the roof in August, and we previously reported how residents had described them as 'ugly' and ‘anti-social.’

Warndon Parish Council had previously discussed their concerns but at the latest meeting held on Monday Stephen Hodgson, councillor for Warndon Parish North, explained that a retrospective application had now been submitted by Tesco to Worcester City Council.

“We have until December 15 (to object)," he said.

“I’ve already put an objection in, in my role as city councillor.

“I have a call in date for December 10, but there is enough for the offices there to decide.

"There is enough there to see this is not acceptable.

“There are just a few more days for people to object to these spikes.

"It was covered in the Worcester News - I would like to see a few more comments about it because it is an unsightly mess.

"There are alternative ways to make that building more secure without putting in ugly spikes. Next door (to the shop) don’t have the ugly spikes on their building.”

Cllr Hodgson said he was happy for an objection he wrote to be taken as the parish council’s official response, but parish councillors Andrew Cross and Andy Taylor said it would be better to have the authority’s planning committee meet and produce it.

Andy Taylor added: “It is better to separate a councillor’s views from the parish - I think it adds strength."

Councillors agreed to meet later this week when they will submit the official objection.

Previously a Tesco spokesman said: "After a spate of break-ins at our Warndon Express we have installed several new security measures to help protect the store.”

The application can be found at plan.worcester.gov.uk and searching for 20/00865/FUL.
