PEOPLE have been asked to send in their messages of hope to be displayed at Worcester Cathedral this Christmas.

The Cathedral has sent out Christmas tree cards, designed for residents to write their wishes and hopes on, to the local community, donors and supporters nationally and across the UK.

Once collected, the messages will be displayed around the Cathedral and archived in the new year as a record of what is a unique Christmas in 2020.

Worcester Cathedral’s chief operating officer Val Floy said: “These positive words gathered together will show that Worcester is a community – that we are there for each other, and that we believe in brighter days ahead.

“We are delighted to be able to use these messages of hope in 2020 to create a record of how Worcester pulled together in an extraordinary and challenging year, to be viewed by the generations that come after us.

“In this way the Cathedral will again be the guardian of our history, of which these words will be a part.”

Christmas Tree cards have been sent to members of the local community, donors and supporters, both locally and across the UK and are available to download at the Worcester Cathedral website at worcestercathedral.co.uk/Christmas.

The messages are displayed on the Cathedral’s Christmas Tree near the entrance so that all visitors will have the chance to share in the messages, and the display will be shared online.

In the New Year, the messages will be stored, to become a permanent record of Worcester and Worcestershire during 2020.

The campaign is another Christmas initiative from the Cathedral, who promised “Christmas isn’t cancelled” and are planning to run their usual Christmas worship services, albeit with a reduced attendance and on a ticket-only basis.
