POLICE continue to hold a man in custody in relation to a Worcestershire murder investigation.

A scene guard is currently in place at a layby in Ankerdine Road in Cotheridge where, after reports of a vehicle fire, a man in his 60s was found dead in a car.

Here is what we know so far:

  • On Saturday December 12 police were called to reports of a vehicle fire in Cotheridge, Worcestershire.
  • A man in his 60s, was found in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • On Sunday December 13 a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time.
  • On Monday December 14 police closed a lay by in Ankerdine Road to preserve the scene.
  • On Tuesday December 15 police confirmed the 51 year old man remains in custody and is 'helping with enquiries.'

  • There is an increased police presence in the Cotheridge area, but at the current time we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.
  • Detective Chief Inspector Mark Peters, said: “This is clearly a very serious and tragic incident that has seen a man lose his life and our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this sad time.
  • Police are asking anyone with any information, including dash cam footage of a black BMW X5 travelling between Stoney Lane in Broadwas to Ankerdine Road during 5pm and midnight on Saturday 12 December, in particular between 9pm and 9.30pm on Stoney Lane, Broadwas and the immediate area.
