REAL Christmas tree fans can have their tree taken away after the festivities - and help children with cancer at the same time.

The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust has launched its first ‘treecycling’ campaign, which will take place in January 2021.

Volunteers will visit homes to pick up trees on January 6, 8 and 9 in return for a donation.

The charity will cover homes in the postcodes WR1, WR4, WR9 and B60. They will also visit Crowle, Upton Snodsbury, Broughton Hackett, White Ladies Aston and Drakes Broughton as well as Barnt Green and Alvechurch.

There is no minimum donation amount for the team to collect your Christmas tree, but the charity says a £10 donation could cover the printing and distribution of 350 symptom awareness cards which could help a child to be diagnosed with cancer earlier.

A £15 donation could pay for the production and dispersion of 15 information booklets, which help to make treatment a little less scary for children with cancer.

Anyone interested must register their Christmas tree for collection by noon on Monday, January 4 at https://www.gkcct.org/treecycle. Anyone with a tree that is taller than 8ft should call 01905 885777 or e-mail: contact@gkcct.org

Michelle Nolan said: "The team here are so excited to be able to hold an event; support from local businesses and volunteers has been incredible.

"This year has had its challenges for everyone, but our ethos has been 'keep calm and carry on', because the alternative is to let people down and we will not do that.

"Covid doesn’t stop childhood cancer, so we won’t stop either.

"It's our first tree recycle event, and it will be amazing to work with so many fabulous people willing to give up their time to help us.”

Anyone willing to volunteer or who has a vehicle or van that can be used should call the charity on 01905 885777.
