A GYM boss says he will no longer work on site at his businesses in Worcester and Malvern after having a relationship with a member.

John Clark, director of Fit3Sixty, revealed his intentions via Facebook and confirmed he would be indefinitely stepping down from on-site roles with immediate effect.

The social media post referred to “terrible choices”, including a “sexual encounter” with another member, and an apology to customers “hurt over these last 12 months with my selfish behaviour” but Mr Clark insisted neither had involved affairs or any wrongdoing.

He stressed he had regretted using the term “inappropriate relationship” in the post and that his decision had been taken with this six employees in mind.

Mr Clark’s status as director and part owner is still being discussed but for now, he will focus on ongoing charity work, training to compete in 48 marathons in 48 days in aid of The Trussell Trust’s Worcester Foodbank which has already benefited from funds raised by the gyms.

“Being in a relationship with a client overstepped professional boundaries so I am going to take a step back from the business and it can run as it did, just without me being involved,” said Mr Clark.

“My concern now is making sure the business does not suffer any direct harm, it employs good people and does so much good. I am stepping back because that is the right thing to do.

“My Facebook post could have been better worded and I have to live with that moving forward.

“The inappropriate element was purely about it being a member. There were no affairs involved, nothing like that, but morally I shouldn’t have had a relationship with a member. With the amount of work we do for charity – we have just raised £10,000 for a food bank – and the local community, I don’t want this to impact on the business.

"It is a gym that does so much for its local community and I want to do the right thing, to protect the employment of the people who work here.”
