RESIDENTS in a county village are outraged over irresponsible car drivers splashing pedestrians with water in drive-by ‘attacks’.

People living in Callow End, which is half way between Worcester and Malvern, posted on the Callow End Village Noticeboard to talk of their disgust at being targeted by reckless drivers, as water covers road surfaces after heavy rain and snow.

Beth Walker said: “Well I think whoever tried to soak a few of us by speeding up on Lower Ferry Lane in their car needs to grow up.

“Some stupid people out there.”

Kimberley Kelly said: “We had it on the Upton Road. [A car] spraying snow, sludge and stones all over us.”

Emily New said: “Happened to us going to the shop too - I got soaked.”

District and county Tom Wells said he does not “understand the mentality of some drivers” who resort to such selfish behaviour.

Cllr Wells said: “Words fail me.

“It’s outrageous and I struggle to understand the mindset of people who deliberately target pedestrians.

“Please report these incidents to the police so action can be taken.”

Drivers who deliberately splash walkers could get fined up to £5,000.

Inspector Lloyd Cresswell from West Mercia Police said: “Motorists are being warned to be careful when driving on wet roads and to be considerate to other road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

“An example of inconsiderate behaviour could include deliberately driving through puddles or flood water to splash pedestrians or cyclists.

“If we receive evidence of this taking place then the offence of careless driving can be dealt with by a fixed penalty notice with a £100 fine and three penalty points.”
