WORCESTER now has the highest coronavirus infection rate in the county as cases continue to soar.

The infection rate in Worcester was 601.6 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to January 3 - higher than anywhere else in the county.

A total of 609 cases were recorded in Worcester in the seven days.

The city's rate increased by 188 per cent in the last week according to Public Health England.

Worcestershire's infection rate was 473.7 cases per 100,000 people in the same week.

Bromsgrove's rate, which had been the highest in the county for most of the pandemic, was 569.7 cases per 100,000 people.

Malvern's infection rate was 263 cases per 100,000 people in the same week and Wychavon's infection rate was 396.3 cases per 100,000 people.

The rate in Redditch was 547.7 cases per 100,000 people and Wyre Forest's rate was 451.2 cases per 100,000 people.
