UP to 60 homes and a doctor’s surgery could be built in a village near Worcester, new plans have revealed.

The homes and surgery would sit on around ten acres of land off Sandyfields next to several other developments to the west of Martley as part of plans put forward by Jessup Brothers and Citizen Housing Group.

Half of the homes would be affordable, according to the application submitted to Malvern Hills District Council, and the new surgery would replace the existing village surgery in St Peter’s Drive.

A mix of one-bed apartments and two-to-five-bed homes has been proposed.

Up to ten self-build plots would also be set aside and the developers would pay for a new crossing outside the Chantry School as part of the work.

A statement included with the application said: “The development seeks to create improved connectivity to both existing developments and the countryside by promoting new public footpath links, natural areas and open space that vastly improve public access to the countryside. The new residents will be afforded direct off-road pedestrian foot access to the services and facilities within Martley by providing new and improved connections to the existing footpaths leading from the site, through Ryecroft Way and into the centre of the village.

“Taken as a whole it is clear that there are significant benefits that derive from the proposal and that overall there is the potential for net gains in economic, social, and environmental roles of sustainable development.

“It has been demonstrated that the proposal is in accordance with specific policies within the relevant planning documents and with the wider aims and visions of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP).

“The proposals, albeit indicative, demonstrate that the site is capable of accommodating the level of development without any adverse impact to character or landscape and therefore the proposal should be approved without delay.”

A plan to build 20 homes on the land was rejected by Malvern Hills District Council in 2017.

The plans can be viewed and comments can be made via the planning section of Malvern Hills District Council’s website.

The application number is 20/01963/OUT.

Public consultation ends on February 2.
