A WORCESTER school has been selected as a finalist for a highly coveted international award.

RGS Worcester has been nominated for the Covid-19 Response Champions Awards – Schools & Colleges (UK & International), awarded by Bett..

The award is in recognition of the online learning the provided for pupils throughout the Covid-19 pandemic

RGS joins Eton College as one of only eight academic institutions from across the world to be shortlisted for the award.

The global Bett shows are the biggest events of their kind in the world, and the awards are a hallmark of quality and high levels of achievement within Educational Technology. This Award is a tribute to the companies and schools who have responded to the Covid-19 outbreak in a way that has positively impacted the education, health and wellbeing of students.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “To be selected as a global finalist is a fantastic accomplishment, and is recognition of the incredible efforts by all involved across the four RGS Schools in delivering the very best for their pupils.

“The RGS Remote Learning provision during the first ‘lockdown’ was second to none with over 18,500 lessons taught. With a Digital Learning Programme in place since 2014, the Family of Schools were able to move seamlessly to online learning and provided remarkable continuity of education for pupils of all ages.”

Headmaster John Pitt said: “We are very pleased that all the hard work of our staff and the commitment of our pupils and parents has been recognised in this way. We have been developing the use of technology in education, when it makes a difference to learning, for some time now.

“As a consequence, we were able to switch straight to a full remote learning programme when it was needed during this pandemic. We have since realised that we are at the cutting-edge of what is available nationally and even internationally.

“We have also been able to share and develop the use of technology with our partner schools in the state and independent sectors so that everyone has benefited from our status as an Apple Distinguished School.”

Winners of the awards will be announced on January 22.
