A SUPERMARKET chain in the city has confirmed three members of staff have tested positive for coronavirus and are now self isolating.

Sainsbury's in Blackpole have had three confirmed cases within the store.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Three colleagues have tested positive at our Blackpole store and are self-isolating at home.

“Safety is our highest priority. We continue to have strict safety measures in place in all our stores, including additional cleaning and social distancing measures, as well as hand sanitiser stations, Perspex screens and PPE for all our colleagues. We continue to support Test and Trace and remain in close contact with them.”

This follows Tesco confirming a number of staff at its Warndon superstore also had to self-isolate following positive coronavirus tests at the beginning of the month.

Though a Tesco spokesman would not say how many staff had tested positive, it was reported there were as many as 12 cases.

The spokesman said: “Some colleagues at our Warndon superstore are self-isolating after a small number of colleagues tested positive for Covid-19. The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are following all Government guidance and working with local public health authorities.

“We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including a traffic light system at the front of store, protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular cleaning.
