AMID the gloom and sadness as coronavirus-related statistics continue to rise in the latest lockdown, it’s good to know that life will always have its its uplifting moments.

Before the latest restrictions were announced, we asked readers to share stories of their weddings and how they overcame difficulties they encountered in order that they could tie the knot.

Barbourne couple Rebekah and Shaun Perkins were wed in August at Malvern Register Office.

Shaun had followed tradition when it came to the proposal, and in keeping with all the problems everyone is having to face at the moment, put everything in context.

Rebekah said: “After an insecure moment at my grandma’s whilst we had been living with family trying to save for a mortgage, he got down on his knee and asked me.

“He said it is through the bad times as well as good that he wants to be there and going through the tough times as well as fun is what marriage is all about.”

“The best bit about the wedding was that there was no drama, it focused on just us two and the binding of two families.

“The number of guests was obviously limited, guests having to wear masks even though we were all in each other’s support bubble and illness in Shaun’s family meant that they could not be there on the day.

“There were many people to thank for making our big day so special. My mum and dad for surprising me with balloons, flowers, a cake, a wedding box to take on our ‘minimoon’ (included wedding cards, wedding gifts, candles) in Stow-on-the-Wold.

“One of my best friends Chey ended up being the only bridesmaid out of four in the end.

“My brother for being a guest when my sister couldn’t be and my sister-in-law to be for doing my hair and make-up.”

Here’s hoping the brighter days of spring will bring the opportunity for many more couples such as Rebekah and Shaun to be able to enjoy their wedding day this year.
