POLICE are reminding people to make sure their vehicle is locked up when it is left after reports from residents of a spate of vehicle crime in Droitwich.

And a police sergeant is calling for people to report vehicle crime, even minor incidents, so they can build up intelligence.

On social media in recent days residents said they had had their cars broken into in Little Hill, Valley Way, Oakland Avenue and Hammond Close.

Sergeant Sarah Kent said although these had not reported to them, there had been reports of offenders trying car door handles in various streets in Primsland Estate and the new housing estates off Pulley Lane.

Sgt Kent said anyone who was the victim of vehicle crime, including having items stolen from their car when it was insecure and if offenders are spotted trying handles, should report them to police on the 101 no emergency number.

"If people have images captured on CCTV of people trying their car door handles, even if their vehicles were locked and no entry was gained, we would be interested in seeing those recordings for intelligence purposes," Sgt Kent said.

"People should lock their vehicles and not leave anything of any value in them, including things like sat navs, sunglasses and cash which are the frequently stolen items from this type of theft."

Before Christmas the sergeant's police report to Droitwich Town Council revealed there had been rise in drug offences reported in Droitwich, but she said this could be down to more people being at home providing them with "extra eyes, and intelligence" as to what was going on in Droitwich during the day.
