THE city’s coronavirus ‘hotspots’ have been revealed with the latest figures showing fours area in the city recorded 70 cases or more in a week.

A total of 81 cases were recorded in King George’s Field in Worcester - which covers WR3 and WR4 postcodes including parts of Astwood Road, Tolladine Road, Langdale Drive, Brickfields Road and Blackpole Road – between January 2 and January 8.

Public Health England data shows 12 areas recording 50 cases or more during the same period with every part of the city recording 38 cases or more.

A total of 73 cases were recorded in Lyppard Grange.

Eight areas in the city have very high average infection rates according to the latest figures.

Lyppard Grange has a huge infection rate of 1,210.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Warndon West has an infection rate of 964.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Worcester Town South has an infection rate of 956.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Henwick has an infection rate of 948.9 cases per 100,000 people whilst the area known as King George's Field has an average infection rate of 900.6 cases per 100,000 people.

Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood has an infection rate of 885.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Barbourne and Rainbow Hill has an infection rate of 869 cases per 100,000 people and Warndon East has an infection rate of 812 cases per 100,000 people.

Areas with infection rates above 800 cases per 100,000 people are placed in the highest 'hotspot' category by Public Health England (PHE).

PHE's coronavirus map shows where the most cases have been recorded with the three areas in Worcester highlighted dark purple because of the soaring infection rates.

The coronavirus hotspot figures are split into several ‘middle super output areas’ – which are used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - of which Worcester is split into 14 zones.

These zones are slightly larger than postcode areas with an average population of around 7,200 people in each.

A total of 71 cases were recorded in Worcester Town South - which covers most of the city centre towards Worcester Cathedral as well as Sidbury, parts of London Road, Wyld's Lane and Lowesmoor.

As many as 71 cases were recorded in Barbourne and Rainbow Hill and 59 cases were recorded in Northwick.

A total of 59 cases were recorded in Dines Green and St John's, 58 cases were recorded in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood and 54 cases were recorded in Henwick.

Warndon West saw 53 cases recorded, 53 cases were also recorded in Battenhall and Diglis and 51 cases were recorded in Warndon West.

A total of 41 cases were recorded in Worcester Town North - the area covering many WR1 and some WR3 postcodes and includes most of the city centre, Arboretum and Barbourne – and 38 cases were recorded in St Peters.
